The state is building the lab you planned to rent.

On July 22, NSF committed $380 million to AI-programmable cloud labs that include biology; two weeks later Ginkgo Bioworks, which calls its own the world's largest autonomous lab, reported quarterly revenue down 48% to $20 million. The money that did move paid for physical throughput, with Twist Bioscience up 23% to a record $118.4 million, while an August 7 court injunction for WuXi AppTec moved the real BIOSECURE decision to OMB's December 18 list. The lab became public infrastructure in the same quarter its private business model broke.

The supply chain just became adversarial.

WuXi AppTec landed on the Pentagon's 1260H list on June 8 · the BIOSECURE supply chain clock is running. Isomorphic Labs raised $2.1 billion in May, the largest AI drug design round in history, and Parabilis Medicines set a biotech IPO record at $670 million in June. The organizations treating BIOSECURE as a compliance checkbox are missing the other side: China's Decree 834 makes supply chain separation adversarial from both directions.

AI doesn't assist biology It designs it now.

Generate:Biomedicines priced a $400M IPO on February 27, and Earendil Labs closed $787M for a platform already running 40+ clinical programs · in the same quarter Ginkgo's autonomous lab ran 36,000 experiments without human design input. The BIOSECURE Act, signed December 18, 2025, simultaneously started the clock on U.S. supply chain separation from BGI and designated Chinese biotech entities: two vectors moving in opposite directions, almost no organization mapping them together.
